Will a sofa fit in my room?

Compare two sofa orientations with your room measurements and your chosen space in front. Then build the full layout.

Check your sofa measurements

Use the room’s finished inside size and the sofa’s full outer size, including arms. The room is treated as an empty rectangle.

Room sides: 50–3,000 cm (about 20–1,181 in). The starting 80 cm in front is an editable example, not an accessibility or installation standard.

Sofa400 cmRoom depth: 300 cm

The green area marks your chosen space in front, limited to the available room depth. The remaining side space assumes the sofa is centred. A footprint fitting does not establish a usable furnished layout.

Next add doors, radiators, other furniture and their opening space. Check the delivery route and product instructions separately; height, sloping ceilings and angled placements are outside this calculator.

Open this room with a sofa sized and positioned to match your selected arrangement. Sizes are rounded to the nearest millimetre. The sofa’s shape and height are illustrative; add your doors, windows and other furniture. No account or card needed. Precise editing works best on a laptop or desktop.

Which measurements should I enter?

Measure between the finished inside wall faces. For the sofa, use the full outer width and depth from the product information, including arms. For a recliner or sofa bed, repeat the check with its extended dimensions. Enter the front space you want to reserve for your arrangement.

Our guide to measuring a room shows how to record openings, wall projections and furniture.

Worked example: a 220 cm sofa in a 4 m × 3 m room

A sofa 220 cm wide and 95 cm deep, centred against the 400 cm wall, leaves (400 − 220) ÷ 2 = 90 cm on each side. The distance from its front to the opposite wall is 300 − 95 = 205 cm.

Rotate the arrangement to put the sofa against the 300 cm wall: it leaves 40 cm on each side and 305 cm in front. Both fit the empty rectangle, but neither calculation includes a coffee table, door swing or the route through the furnished room.

What does this calculator check?

It compares two straight placements, centred against a wall, at 0 and 90 degrees. It checks the sofa footprint and your chosen front space against an empty rectangle. It does not evaluate angled or curved sofas, alcoves, ceiling height, radiators or collisions with other objects.

For a long, thin room, follow the narrow living room layout guide to see how sofa, table and media depths compete for the same space.

Will the sofa fit through my door?

This calculator cannot determine that. Check the packaged and assembled product dimensions, removable parts and the whole delivery route, including turns, stairs, landings and headroom. Use the retailer’s delivery guidance for the exact product.

Can I save this arrangement?

Select “Plan the full room free” to open your measured room and sofa in the editor, with the sofa against your chosen wall. Room sides must be between 2 m and 30 m, and the sofa footprint must fit that orientation. Sizes are rounded to the nearest millimetre; the sofa shape and height are illustrative. Your chosen front space is kept as an editable note. Add the actual doors, windows and other furniture before judging the full layout.

If the sofa does not fit, the link carries only the supported room dimensions into the new-room form. Local projects and downloads are free; paid plans add cloud saving and sharing.
